Design for new user EDU (discovering)

We need to explain the rules and functionality of the app to new users.

just to capture what we talked about, we discussed an overlay on the "add" page the first time you hit that page, and we also wanted 3 icons at the bottom of the screen always. The three main things we wanted to convey were that good discoveries are:

1. fun/interesting
2. stationary
3. outside/in public places

we also talked a little bit about first use actions, like a default unlocked discovery, suggesting you find something particular, or highlighting good discoveries, but we haven't reached a decision on that yet.

i like the overlay idea, would be nice in general just to teach people how to discover/find stuff.

default discovery is cool too, though i don't know how that will fit in to our whole "get rid of feeds for notifications" thing.

we could also do a 3rd step in onboarding where we just show a canonical example, of say graffiti or something. and with one of us discovering it and the other two finding it.

i think one last thing is people often ask me if there's a way for the discoverer to accept or reject an answer. not sure if people are suffering from a bit of anxiety or what, but maybe it would help to ease their minds by saying emphasizing that this is just a game!

@sabrinasans thanks. you can just give me the PSDs too. By the way did you see that I added a map to this view so you can drag the marker around? Let me know how you plan to integrate that.

We're not going to have room for these + the map + the keyboard, since the keyboard is popped when you get to this screen. There are some things we can do, like switching up the order we ask people to do things so the keyboard isn't popped up immediately, or making it more than one step.

I really like the color palette of these icons, and I really want to keep them in here somehow!

Separately, I attached a photo of what happens on my phone, with a shorter screen, so you guys can see.

I'll let Sabrina decide how to handle everything we want to accomplish in the "add" flow. Maybe she has other creative ideas for getting all this stuff in there!

John and I just talked. For now we're going to try:

1. Icons at the top
2. No keyboard triggered until you tap into the field
3. Tapping into the field will move the field to the top of the screen
4. Copy change: "I FOUND" should be "I DISCOVERED"
5. Borders and padding for the photo (John to try something and then we will show Sabrina what we came up with)

Also, Sabrina, John and I were confused by the bug icon because it felt like a bug report. Could we get a different icon for "Fun and Interesting"? Thanks!

i placed the instructions at the bottom for now. will think about how to put it at the top soon. but what do you guys think so far?

I'll come up with a different icon for the "fun and interesting", that makes sense. What's the reasoning behind having border/padding around the photo?

I'm fine with whatever you decide. It seemed jarring to me to have the button flush against the photo but I can't look at it now since I'm on airplane mode, so I can look at it again when I'm in NYC!
