moves all stat gathering into the if args.verbose block #111

this avoids gathering the data if its not needed

I've prepared the patch together with @tazend. Note that we based the patch on v1.5.0 because that's what we have locally installed. If you like us to rebase the patch on latest develop/master, let us know.
