Ah how frustrating! I haven't built much in the way of tooling to let users correct this kind of book data error, but it's definitely needed.
Just wanted to bring up another example.
When I try to Start Reading a specific edition, I basically get a random one. Viewing Vol. 9 and hitting "Start Reading" presents me with a modal to start reading Vol. 5.
I'd like to know the progress of this feature.
There is no way to delete books or editions on the servers I manage, which is creating secondary accidents.
All an administrator can do is convert the book information entered by contributors into garbage information that can't be used by other users.
So this is an example of what I mean: https://bookwyrm.social/book/180513/editions
This edition, for whatever reason, is connected to a bunch of entries in a series. I'm not sure if there's a way to split them up (or delete them to be re-imported), but they don't belong together.
It's also weird because I read the second volume, and it's connected to a bunch of them from 3+. (There's also a separate entry already existing for volume 3.)
Perhaps this could also be a feature request? Having the ability to separate out editions that don't belong might be useful. (Like a 'create new entry' sort of thing? I'm not sure.)
