I would also be interested in something like this. It would be great to be able to aggregate media titles together and organize/combine multimedia lists! There’s lots of great indexes that could help for importing information like Moby Games for video games or IMDB for movies and TV. Even if the index isn’t free, allowing instance admins to configure index’s like that would be super helpful!
I think (after only seeing a tiny bit of the code) that changing "book" and "books" in the strings to a variable/constant could do the trick.
But for having different types of media at once...
I add up to the people interested in implementing other kinds of media to Bookwyrm -or at least knowing if there is a chance for it. Any developments on this side?
I know the name of the original software itself focuses on books and I'm a great supporter of this media first -also given it's more and more representing a minority which has to be encouraged... however I've also noticed I couldn't fully adopt it as a platform to keep track of my 'explorations of narratives' (passing through different medias) as I felt the need to expand it and found no instance/fork allowing this. It sounded a bit like a missed opportunity, given the open standpoint it's built in, and the great support for diversity federated platforms could provide.
I therefore ask again: is this planned some way or another in the future? In any case, not being a developer myself, I'm curious if different tweaking of this platform could achieve this or if a new software would be required from scratch at all: how complicate would it be to support different kind of medias for Bookwyrm as a base platform?
Thank in advance to anyone replying! :seedling:
What are the etiquette rules pointing to non-Bookwyrm projects here?
I think NeoDB was mentioned in another issue, so: NeoDB is an open-source software for "media consumption" of books, movies, music, podcasts, games, and performances. It's integrated into the Fediverse. https://neodb.net/

Well, just thank you so much for the suggestion: you possibly ended a years-longing and weeks-despairing search for a similar platform! It feels ready enough, while still in development and having few instances, but I'm more than willing to contribute to finally have such a service. Only missing thing so far, which might be relevant for Bookwyrm users, is that there seems not to be integrations with Openlibrary yet (but it has Goodreads/Google Books/BooksTW and Fediverse -so I guess and hope the two projects can exchange knowledge about that ;)
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Bookwyrm is great for tracking books: however, looking at platforms like RateYourMusic, MyAnimeList, IMDb, Letterbox, etc I can see that beyond books, something like Bookwyrm for other kinds of media could be useful.
Describe the solution you'd like Some way to extend bookwyrm servers to optionally support more than just books could drastically increase the experience an account on a server experiences: tracking/rating all kinds of media (eg: books , tv shows, movies, anime, video games) may have some value
Describe alternatives you've considered This is just a shower thought I had when I was updating myanimelist.
Additional context not in the mood, sorry, just wanting to open a space for a discussion on this issue
