Usability Issue Reported by CBOX User #12

Closed vothsco closed 10 years ago

vothsco commented 11 years ago

This issue relates to the following thread from the CBOX community Help and Support forum: http://commonsinabox.org/groups/help-support/forum/topic/what-is-returned-after-clicking-tags-at-the-bottom-of-wiki-pages-and-docs/#post-3909

I have also attached a screenshot.

To summarize: When a site has a lot of tags and a user wants to search by tag, the results of the search are displayed all the way down on the page. The user must scroll through the entire list of tags in order to find the results.

Thanks for reporting this. It is indeed a problem.

I'm working on a couple of solutions for the next version of Docs.

I'll update here when there's more to play with.

CBOX member Eric Willoughby reports a slightly different version of this issue. When he clicks on the tag cloud, instead of showing all the items related to the tag, he gets the whole tag list, followed by the related items to the particular tag. (A related issue was opened about his problems with tags not working correctly is here: https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-docs-wiki/issues/14)

Thanks, @vothsco . I'm pretty sure this is the same issue as described above. The fixes that I discuss above are mostly implemented in Docs. I'll make sure they're included in the next Commons In A Box update.

Hi @boonebgorges, @vothsco Has there been a fix for this? I saw something on issue #14 but not sure if it fixes both issues or only the other one. Thanks.

Yes, there have been improvements in BuddyPress Docs to ease the issue. You can download the latest Docs right now if you want manual control, or wait for the next Commons In A Box release, probably within the next week.

Helene Findori reports that there is one other display issue here. There is an inconsistency between clicking on a tag from the tag cloud in the sidebar, and when clicking on the tags within the filtered tag box. When doing the latter, the two widgets (Widget Bottom Left, Widget Bottom Right) display. When clicking on the tag cloud, they do not display. Helene would like those widgets to display only on the Wiki Home page, but not when a user is accessed content via tags. Here is a link to the thread on Help & Support: http://commonsinabox.org/groups/help-support/forum/topic/what-is-returned-after-clicking-tags-at-the-bottom-of-wiki-pages-and-docs/

Also, Helene notices that a small change in the verbiage would be good: Instead of “You are viewing all docs” can it say “You are viewing all wiki pages” ?

HeleneFi commented 10 years ago

That would be the verbiage on the wiki homepage which lists all the wiki pages under the widgets if any...
