Precise color spec for Boost logo #223

As discussed in #219, we need to select the actual "mustard" color from a hardcopy and specify it in a device-independent manner.

is Pantone still a thing? there's also Freetone.

I like this guy: https://culturehustle.com/products/freetone

Printers deal with many different color specs, IIRC. But it's been some time since I directly dealt with printers when I was running a press.

There are standard color specs though..

PS. Go read the whole set of color specs.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_space

PPS. Having said that.. My suggestion is to use sRGB. It's well known. Limits you to computer monitor colors. It's well know how to convert to other color spaces. Might have to check if the color you want is within the CMYK space though.

vinniefalco commented 3 months ago

Well no I am not a fan of that at all, because when you go to the printer and ask for a spot color the very last thing they want to hear is some sRGB coordinate. Maybe they will accept it but this is not industry standard. The benefit of a Freetone color is that we don't have to pay a license, and when communicating the color coordinates to a printer we can specify the Pantone equivalent (which they vastly prefer) and it will be the same color.

grafikrobot commented 3 months ago

@vinniefalco okay. I have no objections to using whatever color spec/space you want.

I downloaded the Freetone palette and you won't believe this... the numbers (purely by coincidence I am sure) exactly match their Pantone equivalents ;)
