GOG Galaxy: loses connection to "Communication Service", shuts down a few seconds after launch #222

I'm using an up-to-date version of Bottles from Flathub (on Fedora Workstation 38), and used the "GOG Galaxy" installer script provided by Bottles. It finishes fine, logging in with my account works fine, but a few seconds after the GOG Galaxy client window itself appears, a dialog window with this message pops up:

"Connection to Communication Service was lost and could not be restored! GOG Galaxy will now shutdown."

The main window becomes unresponsive at this point, and clicking the "OK" button on the dialog window closes the application.

This pretty much prevents me from using GOG Galaxy at all, so I don't think a "Gold" rating is deserved at this point 😢

It looks like this is a problem that's been happening for years on different platforms ...

It sounds like the GalaxyCommunication.exe service that's mentioned in a few of these issues should be started automatically in the background when launching GOG Galaxy, but that doesn't happen (or doesn't work) for some reason?

Huh, I tried changing a few settings, and it appears that changing the runner from soda-7.0-3 to sys-wine-8.0 fixes the crashing issue entirely. If this is an expected issue with the soda runner, feel free to close this issue.

This seems to have been fixed either with a recent GOG Galaxy update, or by updating the soda runner to soda-7.0-9. Thanks!
