Small changes to improve initial local development setup for contributors #65

Apologies if the format of this PR is not proper.

Reason for changes: Whilst setting up for local development I've noticed some improvements could be made to make it faster to get started with.

@GitPaulo I'm outside the country for a little while and won't be able to do the migration necessary for this PR until I'm back home.

But I'm leaving this PR open in the meantime because this is great work and I want to get that merged in!

Will get back to it once I'm settled in again late September or early October. Sorry for the delay!

@GitPaulo Hello! I know it's been a long while but would you mind rebasing your fork? It looks like it's 40+ commits behind upstream. Just so I can see a more up-to-date diff of this PR 😀
