I can confirm this. Basically this tool just takes the URL that is currently
in
chrome and sends it to the phone. Since the phone can detect google maps URL's
it
launches the map app. I got my phone to do the directions bit by taking the
extra
step of clicking the "Link" option just above the upper right corner of the
map.
Copy/paste the url given into the address bar and THEN click the chrometophone
button.
Note, if you watch the keynote again its Day 2 Part 2 2mins 50secs you will see
they
had the full url in the demo as well.

Is there a reason you don't want the maps app to launch for a maps link?

I confirm this behavior. My phone fires up the browser instead it should auto
fire
intent for directions in the actual Google maps app.

There is an option in the .apk on the phone to open up map links in google maps
instead
of the browser

This could quite possibly be fixed by having the Chrome extension special-case
maps.google.com and grab the
"link" from the DOM tree instead of just the browser's location bar.

I also confirm the issue reported by @goodlifechris. I also confirm the
work-around by @tsnyder91, although I'm
having varied success. First attempt at sending directions, based on a
location search that was previously sent to
phone, didn't work. But when I produced an entirely new set of directions in
Chrome and sent *that* to my N1, it
worked. Also worked on a third try without pasting the link, which is the
ideal.
Hoping there's a way for our heroes at Google to simplify this at some point in
the future, but glad it works
overall. You guys are amazing, thanks.

I've made a fix for the problem related to directions not showing up on the
phone. Please download the new
extension and let me know if it works...

mike,
What URL are you linking from?
ChrometoPhone should work with http://maps.google.com and
http://www.google.com/maps

I was using http://www.google.com/maps which does not work for me.
Upon trying with http://maps.google.com it does indeed work.
