the first commit is trivial: it fixes a few spelling mistakes
the second commit is important: it replaces the COPYING symlink with a real file (as found on my harddisk).

interestingly, /usr/share/automake-1.16/COPYING on my harddisk (and thus the new COPYING for this project) is GPL-3 (I think most sources reference GPL 2 or later, so I would have expected GPL-2)
