Agreed, Linux support is definitely needed. Especially with a significant portion of web servers being Linux systems.

+1, this is something I would use. I'm in for helping/collaborating/testing.

OK, so the README file says:
"The Brackets native shell currently runs on Mac and Windows. Since it's based on CEF/Chromium, it could be ported to Linux relatively easily, but that work hasn't been done yet. Stay tuned."
ok we have Chromium on linux, I haven't coded with the chrome ui yet but i would like to have some more info...

Well, just running a HTTP Server in brackets/src
and then loading it in chrome returns this:
So it at least pretends to work. I need to take a look at adobe/brackets-app in order to see what they are doing with it.

but how does the file system work. i'll be able to help in 2 weeks if this doesn't get solve.
Comment by LeonFedotov Tuesday Jun 26, 2012 at 14:19 GMT
its seems that adobe/brackets-app is using Chromium Verison: 17.0.963.15 which is olddd...

No, I mean,@
jrgifford ran it on the webserver, but I'm not sure the regular browser allows access to filesystem?
Comment by altryne Tuesday Jun 26, 2012 at 14:40 GMT
@
matzipan you can try running chrome with --allow-file-access-from-files --disable-web-security
or check the appropriate switch here http://peter.sh/experiments/chromium-command-line-switches/
to enable file access

matzipan is correct, it doesn't. After some hacking (and using the switches that@
altryne mentioned) I've got it loading, but complaining that I'm accessing it via a browser, which is not supported. So it doesn't let me do anything.

Hi all--yes, we currently rely on native filesystem support that we've built into our shell. The current shell (in adobe/brackets-app) is temporary, based on CEF1--we're switching to a CEF3-based shell soon, which is in adobe/brackets-shell. Our Linux work will be based on that shell instead.
Our current plan is to start by porting the native extensions we've already built (mostly around filesystem access), but eventually we might migrate to an embedded Node.js server, which would aid in porting to Linux as well.
More info on our shell migration plans is at: https://github.com/adobe/brackets/wiki/CEF3-vs.-Chromium-Content-Shell https://github.com/adobe/brackets/wiki/Research:-Node.JS-Integration https://github.com/adobe/brackets-shell/wiki/Architectural-Overview https://github.com/adobe/brackets-shell/wiki/Writing-V8-Extensions
And we have a backlog item for adding Linux support: https://trello.com/card/linux-desktop-application/4f90a6d98f77505d7940ce88/457
Please feel free to vote up and comment on that card (I think you need to create a Trello account to do so, but you don't need to be added to the project)--especially let us know if you'd like to help :). Thanks!

I was planning on starting an opensource webtechnology-based editor on my own as a response to sublime text 2. So i will be contributing a lot. I think the base editor should use some interfaces (like java class interfaces to allow for easy porting from cef to node.js. Regarding the node.js app i have some nice ideas i think you'll love.

For details & info on contributing, see our Linux Version wiki page.
To tell us Linux support is important -- please search for "Linux" on our Trello backlog and upvote any missing features that matter to you. Adding a "+1" comment here will not be tracked and will not help raise the priority.
