[CLOSED] Suggestion: Provide mirrors for the download #5005

Open core-ai-bot opened 3 years ago

Issue by MarcelGerber Tuesday Oct 08, 2013 at 14:47 GMT Originally opened as https://github.com/adobe/brackets/issues/5450

As http://download.brackets.io and http://dev.brackets.io are down currently, I got the idea of having mirrors for that case (at least for download.brackets.io). For example we could use sourceforge, http://brackets.io itself or even github for hosting.

Marking move to backlog. This hasn't happened that frequently, but we should find out from@adrocknaphobia what the causes of the downtimes were.

Seems it's down again, so the need of mirrors gets bigger.

The problem still occurs.

I don't know if I should open new issue, since this one is 3 months old. However the problem still is present.

I am unable to download brackets for more than 3 hours.

Sorry, hope I am missing something, but all download links on brackets.io are download.brackets.io and that one is offline.

Sorry, I guess that link also goes through download.brackets.io. I'm not sure why it's saying no packets are received because I can get to download.brackets.io.

@dadish What country / geographical area are you located in? And what is your ISP? It sounds like access to the domain download.brackets.io is getting blocked for you for some reason...

Seems like pinging the server is disabled as doing ping download.brackets.io in the Windows-cmd returns in a timeout. But I can access the site in the browser (Chrome, Germany, ISP Kabel Deutschland). But maybe the server was not accessable when@dadish wrote this. In his GitHub profile he says he's from Turkmenistan.

Yes, I am from Turkmenistan. The only ISP is availaable for me is "Altyn Asyr Turkmenistan".

However I am unable to reach all subdomain.brackets.io, including blog.brackets.io, dev.brackets.io and download.brackets.io

I've also tried to ping from my VPS (ChicagoVPS) which is probably located in US. Also no luck.

Also tried some online tools

http://cloudmonitor.ca.com/en/ping.php?vtt=1388775366&varghost=blog.brackets.io&vhost=_&vaction=ping&ping=start

http://cloudmonitor.ca.com/en/ping.php?vtt=1388775366&varghost=download.brackets.io&vhost=_&vaction=ping&ping=start

and recieved sad results.

But I am able to reach brackets.io with no problem. Both from my browser and with online tools.

I was able to reach download.brackets.io through VPN.

It seems like@SAPlayer is right. The pinging is disabled on subdomains (that are bound to different IP addresses from main brackets.io) and those are blocked by my ISP.

Strange, never heard about disabling pinging.

Will try to download through my VPS I guess.

Apologies for disturbing you all guys.

Thank you for responses.
