[CLOSED] Need to turn off indexing when opening a folder in Edge Code. #6047

Issue by smayphotography Monday Jan 27, 2014 at 10:55 GMT Originally opened as https://github.com/adobe/brackets/issues/6656

In the most recent upgrade, there seems to now be a process whereby Edge Code tries to index everything in a folder when it's opened.

I connect to a design network drive that has about 1tb of design related files on it from hundreds of sites. Ergo, when I open edge, it hangs for about 5-6 minutes until it throws up an error message saying it couldn't index all the files before I can use it.

There must be a way I can stop this happening? I don't want everything indexed. I just want to browse through the file system in edge and edit the specific file I want.

I can't even downgrade now due to the Creative Cloud installation method.

Any help on this? Otherwise I'm off to Sublime Text again.

@smayphotography Brackets works best if you use File > Open Folder... to choose the "project" that you are currently working on. It's easy to switch between projects using the dropdown list at the top of the project tree in left sidebar. When using Find in Files or Quick Edit for CSS or JS, only files in current project are searched.

With that said, we're trying to improve the case that you mentioned. For now, try installing the Exclude Folders extension so you can control which folders are searched.

@smayphotography Please let us know if the extension@redmunds mentioned improved this scenario. I call it a Medium Priority for now.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the recommendation, have just installed Exclude folders, edited the expression to exclude the folder I work on, but to no avail - I've a little experience in javascript but no idea if my expression is correct. Seems to be in an identical format to the default.

This would be a whole lot easier if there was an option to just turn off the folder indexing...?

Thanks for all your help though, it's much appreciated.

@smayphotography Thanks for your feedback. We're planning to provide better filtering in the next release of Brackets (0.37). Closing.
