Add structural definitions to lab warm-up PP (and make a note of it in GitHub).
If you add structural definitions to lab warm-up slides, and if there's time, then add questions to lab and quiz.
Lab and quiz
In Fall 2023, I made the lab and quiz pretty hurriedly. I basically just used exercises from Szklo and Nieto.
This semester, I'd like to change the lab and quiz in a few different ways:
I'd like them to follow R4Epi more (assuming R4Epi is done). In particular, I'd like to add more structural definition of bias stuff.
Currently, it just feels like a random grabbag of questions. They don't really build on each other or follow a scenario the way I like.
I'd like to make the questions more "mine" instead of ripping off other authors.
Additionally, Libby created a lab in Fall 2022. I didn't use all of it and there are still some multiple choice questions that may be useful. See modules > 07 Systematic Error - Bias > Archive > libby_bias_lab.qmd.
Students finished the bias lab in less than 30 minutes. Feel free to make it much longer if you'd like.
Tasks
[ ] Revise lab
[ ] Add some questions about selection bias. There currently aren't any.
[ ] Have them calculate p-values, confidence intervals, and p-value curves.
[ ] Have them interpret the odds ratios and measures of random error.
[ ] Revise module quiz
[ ] Consider revising the order of the module quiz. In Fall 2023, I used Libby's order where the "correct" contingency table was created first (task 1). Then, a biased contingency table was created later (Q6). It works ok, but I think it might make more sense to start with the biased contingency table and then have them create the unbiased contingency table subsequently. That is what we do in the lab.
