On 2024-06-19, Brittany finished converting the Rmd files from the Getting Started part of R4Epi from Rmd to Quarto (#157). Brad needs to review them all.
[ ] We will need new screenshots. The appearance of RStudio has changed a little bit. For example, “jobs” now says “background jobs”. Additionally, RStudio doesn’t show the project you’re working on in the top right corner anymore.
There were two Quarto files in “Chapters/navigating_rstudio”: “03_navigating_rstudio.qmd” and “navigating_rstudio.qmd”. I erased “03_navigating_rstudio.qmd” because it looked like that was the one you used to build the chapter in the “_quarto.yml” file.
I changed some “You”s to “We”s.
I changed “When you first load RStudio you should see a screen that looks very similar to what you see in the picture below. Figure 3.1” to “When you first load RStudio you should see a screen that looks very similar to what you see in Figure 3.1 below.”
I changed the “jobs” in “jobs pane” to “background jobs”.

Instead of making “console” bold on line 31, let’s add it to the glossary. It’s a pretty important word/concept.
Let’s try to make sure all the image file names and code chunk labels match. The exception is that file names will use underscores and code chunk labels must use dashes.
When we reference figures in the text, let’s try to work the “Figure XX” into the sentence more naturally instead of tacking “Figure XX” on the end of the sentence. For example, “In @fig-seq-function we see examples of a couple of new concepts that are worth discussing.”
Line 56: Let’s link to the word function in the glossary.
Line 60: Where we say, “Question…” can we turn this into an actual quiz question?
Line 64: Link “argument” to the glossary.
Left off at line 74
@mbcann01 I updated the 'flow' of figures throughout the chapter and linked the terms to the glossary.
For a quiz question, do you want something like: 'What is the name of the function used in 'seq(...)', or would you prefer 'Which of the following is an example of a seq() function?
For image file names and code chunks, the only way I have found for the figures to be labeled as figures is to have 'fig-" in front of them. Should I change the image names to include that?
I am working on updating the screenshots; it's a little tedious and taking a bit of time.
Please don't worry about the quiz questions for now. I think it will be a cool feature to add eventually, but I will need to do some tinkering with different libraries and packages to make functional quiz questions.
No, no! "fig-" is good! I just found one that wasn't named the same as the code chunk label even if we don't consider the "fig-" part. However, I think it was just missing an underscore. I don't think this is an issue. I think it was just a one-off.
So tedious to update the screenshots!! Thank you for doing that, though!
