Unirom loads, backups do not launch (NTSC / SCPH-7501) #111

Hello there,

I have an NTSC SCPH-7501 Playstation that loads FreePSXBoot flawlessly from a Slot 2 memory card but will not load backups. Backups are written to Verbatim CD-Rs at 10x write speed (slowest my drive will write). Games are hanging on the "FASTLOAD LOCATING CDROM:\" command.

For reference, here is what Unirom saying when attempting to load PaRappa the Rapper:

LOAD "$".8 PRESS PLAY ON TAPE WAITING FOR CD TO BECOME READY & UNLOCKED... DISC STATE: SEEKING 2...

REMINDER! YOU CAN LEAVE THE FREEPSXBOOT CARD IN SLOT 2!

APPLIED NOCASH UNLOCK... LOADED SYSTEM.CNF FROM SECTOR 0X17 FASTLOAD LOCATING CD:\SCUS_941.83:1

Every backup I attempt to load hangs on this same command.

Additionally:

Hope this is enough information to figure out a resolution. Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks so much! :)

If you remove the slot 2 memory card from the console after unirom starts up but before you boot the game, then boot the game, does it work?

No, unfortunately I receive the same error as my op. I can see your train of thought with that suggestion though! Thanks for your reply :)

Yea I was just curious if this was another case of the slot 2 patch screwing things up.

Btw I recommend CMC Pro discs now as the ideal media. Verbatim != quality especially the ones from retail stores not branded as DataLifePlus or UltraLifePlus.

As mentioned in OP, all discs were written on Verbatim CD-Rs. Memory cards are Sony official.

Standard Verbatim CD-Rs that are not branded DataLifePlus or UltraLifePlus are horrible quality so I would try different discs.

I followed your advice to get the DataLifePlus discs and they work! Thanks so much :)
