NTSC-J SCPH-5500 #36

I tested today new file for Japan 5500 and it works. 3.0 (1996-09-09) | SCPH-5500 | 20210420

But it can't load PAL and US backups, getting error. I found out that with the licensed NTSC-J disk inserted and the lid closed, you can select a menu item "Stop Disc" https://i2.paste.pics/6a3513584d8296f5cb55517e2f9d21ac.png, swap disc to backup and press play. Then game loading correctly. But you can't release the lid closing switch when making swap, it must be pressed all the time). There is a question: is it fixable?

upd. Pirate stamp CD Tekken 3 (NTSC-J SLPS_013.00) reports an error on startup too. It turns out that you need a license disk in any case?

I know with a modchip in a Japanese PS1, you have to region-patch the game before burning it because Japanese consoles (and PAL PSones) have a secondary region-check done by the BIOS which doesn't accept out-of-region games unless they have their license-sector patched. No idea if that would work with that Unirom-Swap-method.

I burned Import_Player_lightv2.1(J) to CD-R and it's not working also. Anyway I need license disk to play unsupported games.

I draw a conclusion with Japan 5500:

That's how you're gonna use Unirom on a Japanese model if it doesn't have a modchip. To launch a burned copy of import player you should have to make a swap like that but it would be pretty pointless since you can launch directly the game instead. Someone could use an "original pressed" disc of a Japanese swap disc, but I think those are extremely rare to find. Keep in mind that using the swap method on games with different TOC information from the original Japanese game can have issues like freezing, not loading levels or missing music.

Have you tried patching a backup to jap region with disk patcher 3.0?

No. It's not a solution for me. I think it should work.

Actually all JAP-region model (scph-x000, x500, x00) don't work with the backup cd except manual swapping by an original NTSC-J game disc. But it's hard to finish it by always closing the cdrom cover. Maybe the author will improve someday. Let's wait.
