SCPH-7001 #93

Does this version of the console have issues with "Backup Disks"? My PSone (SCPH-101) can read backup disks both Japan and USA fine burned at 8x. The 7001 reads USA disks but stutters doing it. Japan, it stops reading at the publishing credit. Otherwise it reads real PS disks just fine. Do I need to start burning at 2x or something like that?

Thanx

I've actually been burning some backups for this very model because my 5501 is really struggling to play any kind of disc at the moment. I have noticed some strange stuttering as well, even though normal discs seem to play just fine. I burn all of my backups at 4x, because that seems to be the "safe" burn speed that the community agrees on, but I do get some stuttering on certain games (Mega Man 8 was the latest issue I ran across) when loading burned discs. I'm not sure if this is a FreePSXBoot problem, or if this is simply one of the afore mentioned issues at play. We could try to troubleshoot if you'd like?

I also have a 7001 model and my CD-R backups run fine; maybe occasional stutter. As long as you burn at a slow speed (1x is my recommendation) and use quality media, you should have no problems. However, this is assuming the hardware is fine. If it's not (which is likely, given the age of these units), then you might have to take some measures like adjusting the potentiometer and/or try running the system upside down.
