Stuck on Cyan Screen #99

Closed HonkHonkBich closed 1 year ago

HonkHonkBich commented 1 year ago

Hello, I've been trying to softmod my NTSC-J SCPH-7000 using tonyhax intl. and FreePSXBoot. After following the instructions on orca.pet, I successfully restored the MCR image to my PSX memory card in MCA. But I panicked and formatted the card because I realized my games had anti-modchip. After failing to find other softmod methods, I double-took and restored the image. I'm afraid now that I may have screwed up because the application freezes at the cyan screen. Did I brick the memory card? Will I have to use another image instead of the one that corresponds with my console model?

Hi there. I am the devloper of Tonyhax International. Please try to burn the MCTool CD image from MottZilla: https://www.psx-place.com/resources/mctool.1283/ this will allow you to format your messed up memory card correctly. You should then be able to follow the instructions at https://alex-free.github.io/tonyhax-international#freepsxboot without issue.

What game has anti-mod that you want to use? I am currently adding support for every anti-mod game that does not currently work. If you'd like you can use this beta version which may already support the game you want to play tonyhax_scph-7000_slot2.mcr.zip

Thank you for the advice! I will make sure to burn the MCTool image. The anti-modchip games I want to run are all of the "Beatmania" games, pop'n music 6, and DDR 5th Mix. I am trying to use backups, but I'm not sure if the anti-modchip will be permanently triggered.

Those games are not yet supported even in the beta version I sent, but I will for sure look into them. It may be possible to use them right now if you patch them first. This website has patches for some of the games: https://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_patches_b.shtml (https://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml). If those patches work let me know for which game you tried.

Okay I have implemented an anti-piracy bypass into this special beta version for Pop 'n Music 6. Pop 'n Music 2 is already supported as well.

The BeatMania games and DDR 5th mix are not supported yet. Many other anti-piracy games are though.

Good Afternoon!

So I followed your instructions correctly, but I'm still stuck on the cyan screen. Could there be something else causing this?

1) Did you previously verify that after formatting the memory card with MCTool that it still works normally (i.e. you can save games on it like usual)? 2) Did you flash the file I linked you with PS2 memory card annihilator successfully? 3) Did you try powering off the console, inserting the memory card in slot 2, powering on the console with no disc in the CD drive, and then selecting the memory card manager in the main menu of the PS1? 4) Does a different memory card work (if available)? 5) Is this a real official memory card or a 3rd party knockoff? I belive that the 3rd party memory cards should just work with the recent FreePSXBoot but I could be wrong. In this case please let me know this so I can state this in the next update of Tonyhax International.

I have a SCPH-7500 which works fine so I'm kind of puzzled why your 7000 wouldn't work. I am using a real Sony memory card.

HonkHonkBich commented 1 year ago

Good morning,

  1. Yes, it worked normally after formatting.
  2. I did flash the beta version you sent me.
  3. Yep, I have always done this!
  4. I'll try my second memory card and let you know

Is this an official Sony memory card or a knockoff chinese memory card with the incorrect capacity? I thought that the latest FreePSXBoot builder would allow me to make memory card images that would work on the knockoff chinese memory cards but I could be wrong as it sounds like you have one! Please let me know if this in an official Sony memory card.

Are you using a normal ps1 controller to select the memory card manager?

Any chance you could send a video?

Cheers! If you ever figure out how to make it work on the other memory card let me know. I would think however that simply formatting the memory card in MCTool and then running PS2 annihilator on the memory card to restore the tonyhax image would just work though.

As I mentioned before, anti-piracy game support is actually what I am working on right now. If you have a specific list of titles you want to play send them to me so I can make sure they get supported (if I can figure out how to bypass the anti-piracy, which in most cases I can).

I thought that the latest FreePSXBoot builder would allow me to make memory card images that would work on the knockoff chinese memory cards but I could be wrong as it sounds like you have one! Please let me know if this in an official Sony memory card.

I just added support for Beatmania THE SOUND OF TOKYO and Beatmania 6th Mix + CORE REMIX for you in this beta build.  Don't forget to first format the memory card before writing the new memory card image.

The 'append discs' are gonna be tough to add support for compared to other normal games. I will look into them for you however.

I formatted the memory card and restored it with the new build you just sent. I tried running 6th MIX + CORE REMIX but the software termination kicked in. :(

Since the initial problem I had was fixed, Ill just close this forum.

My apologies I still need to put in some work to the AP functionallity. The next official update will have support!
