Fixes for VVV 2 #344

This fixes what's in there already, there's some other things needed for better support, but this should alleviate some of the problems people are having when using vv and VVV2

This should be ready to merge, it's the minimum needed to get this working with VVV 2 without causing syntax errors @bradp
