However...going there gives:

Should that hroup not be open for viewing, and also to enable signing up, etc..?

(obviously I am signed in with a google ID, etc)

Hello @mjhgthb, I don't know exactly when, but these groups were fully open and some Google settings changed. Now it's public again.
