I should mention: This is on a laptop that uses the unfree nVidia drivers.
I couldn't reproduce this on the exact same Brave version in Arch Linux.
I am using amdgpu
drivers, although we shouldn't be different from Chromium in this respect - @kvilhaugsvik could you by chance try in Chromium 89?
Cool site by the way, never heard of Freeciv before
I can check on the same computer with Chromium 88.0.4324.182 from Debian stable's repos if that helps. It has the tech tree, just like Firefox does. Brave is still missing it after the update that just came out.
Brave on Debian testing with mesa drivers on Intel graphics works too.

The tech tree of https://www.freecivweb.org/ isn't shown on Brave on Debian GNU/Linux on amd64. It is still possible to select a tech by hovering over the empty space and selecting the tech based on pop up help.

Brave version
Brave installed via apt-get on Debian stable Brave 1.22.67 Chromium: 89.0.4389.90 (Official Build) (64 bit)
