Infinity load in random pages #23187

Open djprmf opened 2 years ago

djprmf commented 2 years ago

Description

After latest update, brave started to present issues to completely load some domain in the webpages. The page sometimes stays in a infinite load state, or some domains inside of it (for instance, cdn or static domains).

This happens in a clean browser installation, different profiles, systems, etc.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Access a website
  2. Randomly, the page or itens in the page will be in infinity load state

Expected result:

Page load and stops.

Reproduces how often:

I'm seeing the same issue and noticing this seems to happen more frequently when a page is redirected from one service to another. For example, at work, we use Proofpoint for email security and there is a service called URL defense that analyzes URLs for malicious payloads. I'm seeing that when I click on these URLs inside emails, I frequently have this issue but it appears to be related to authentication. So if the site uses authentication then that's when I see it most.

I've also seen this with services that use SSO which again redirect to an identity provider before opening the page. Just some observations I've noticed.

For reference, my system configuration is:

OS: macOS 12.4 Device: MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2020 Brave Version: 1.39.111 Chromium: 102.0.5005.61 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Disabled extensions…no change bit warden password manager deepl translate grammar & spell checker Homey Qwant uBlockOrigin web RTC network limiter youtube to mp3 converter

Disabled/enbled hardware aceleration…No change WIped brave… sudo apt purge package/app name sudo apt autoremove Reinstalled …No Change… Tried on a number of different sites…same result Reset ‘settings’ to default…No change

Heartily sick and tired of this. it obviously is not OS specific. It is BRAVE.

Might I suggest that this becomes a PRIORITY fix ? Your browser and its reputation are slowly but surely going down the gurgler

Running into the same Version 1.39.111 Chromium: 102.0.5005.61 (Official Build) (64-bit) Debian 11

Latest Update, received this morning Sydney Australia time 7.15am Version 1.39.120 Chromium: 102.0.5005.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Appears to have resolved this issue.

*_I cleared cached images and history and cached files, cookies etc to give its best chance._*

I am now able to middle click many, many links (up to 20 clicked on in a matter of seconds) etc and they will all open as intended....No more failing to load.

Thank you Brave Support

djprmf commented 2 years ago

Currently in version 1.39.120 No change - issue still persist in clean browser installation and old profiles also.

rebron commented 2 years ago

@Condobloke Good that 1.39.120 is working for you. Let us know if you still see the issue. When an issue is filed, sometimes the fix is on the way from a duplicated or related issue which maybe the case here.

@djprmf Can you take a look at https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/23267#issuecomment-1150074366 when you have a chance?

Also, do you have a list of sites we can try out where you're experiencing this issue.

Condobloke commented 2 years ago

G'day @rebron ....After extensive work this afternoon, I saw the issue twice. Given the number of links I opened, that number is tiny as can be.

History. I spend a great deal of time on www.linux.org every day. i have a habit of opening the site to its forum page, and then middle clicking the topics I need to read/respond to etc.....this will usually open approx 15 - 25 tabs. Previously I could guarantee that a minimum of 4 tabs would eternally spin (not load) and a max. as 10 out of 25 would also not load. I also visit www.bleepingcomputer.com , but usually only to read certain topics....no need for the middle button use there I visit many news pages.....and I use the middle click to open what I wish to read....usually 10 - 15 tabs per news site, and I frequent 3 news sites. Same result there. Damn annoying. To "fix" this annoyance I doubkle click on the "reload this page " icon....that does...I have a loaded page in a matter of two seconds or less.

The update to 1.39.120 I installed the update, and noted an immediate difference......I deliberately middle clicked approx one dozen links in an attempt to reproduce the infinity load situation. It did not reproduce the problem. But later in the day it did reproduce the problem.

So.......I purged everything to do with brave-browser and used the software manager on Linux Mint 20.3 to download the 1.3920. I set it up in exactly the same way as I have done with prior versions. Only twice in the afternoons middle clicking did it reproduce the infinity load. Interestingly the fresh install has given me back the initial speed of Brave....for which I am eternally thankful. Love it.

If I can help in any way...just yell out. I am quite willing.

Brian

PS. the link over at #23627 (https://explosm.net/comics/pee) loaded immediately and without fault at all for me.

Condobloke commented 2 years ago

Update: 6am June 10, 2022 There are a few random cases of infinity load still happening. eg i have a key combination set to open a search page (ddg)....the first time I used it today, it didnt open...double clicked on reload this page and was fixed. I tested that quite a few times following that, but could not reproduce.

So....at this stage.......very random.

Condobloke commented 2 years ago

'Randomness' appears to be increasing.

Becoming a serious pita...again

nintendork07 commented 2 years ago

No change for me with version 1.39.120 on m1 macbook air 12.4, if anything it is occurring more often. The easiest way I can replicate is through clicking links in google searches or opening them in new tabs. Typing a website name in the address field also can cause an infinite load, requiring refreshes everytime.

It's extremely prevalent and is ruining the my favorite browser I've used. Never really had any issues since switching to Brave in 2020 until now

Condobloke commented 2 years ago

"" Never really had any issues since switching to Brave in 2020 until now""....Ditto. Finding Brave was a breath of fresh air to me. I only hope the people responsible can bring things to a head, sooner rather than later. I wish I knew how to troubleshoot this type of problem. Very frustrating having to wait for others to find the 'fix'

sidouglas commented 2 years ago

Reporting same problem on Version 1.39.120 Chromium: 102.0.5005.99 (Official Build) (arm64) Monterey 12.4 on Apple M1 Max. Never had problems like before. All google searches require me to intervene and reload.

bmijnendonckx commented 2 years ago

Same issue here Version 1.39.120 Chromium: 102.0.5005.99 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 11. Happens mostly with Google searches in a new tab, but have had it happen with random pages as well.

mooredesignlabs commented 2 years ago

Same issue has been happening with me for close to two weeks. It started with in-browser file transfers to websites. Then progressed to pages not fully loading or displaying correctly. With an infinite load happening until I refresh a handful of times or switch to a different browser. Finally google searches are completely broken.

[Version 1.39.122 Chromium: 102.0.5005.115 (Official Build) (64-bit) Win10

Condobloke commented 2 years ago

@brave-dev

Comment from you would be perhaps reassuring at this point

Condobloke commented 2 years ago

updated…reinstalled cleanly…browser history, cookies, cached images and site setting all cleared on close of browser. eetcvetcv etcv etc…

All this crap should not have to be done to simply use a browser.

We do not need to go through that with Chromium, Firefox etc etc

This issue started ion MAY 29

xTremePower commented 2 years ago

same here, tried all proposed solutions but still infinite load some pages ... When you reload, it works directly ... But it's ultra annoying seriously ...

revunix commented 2 years ago

I also have this issue with my Brave and Chrome as well. I tried reinstalling, disabling a few add-ons, but nothing helped. Switched to Firefox now until it is fixed.

I also have this issue with my Brave and Chrome

I can't replicate this issue in Chrome - is working fine in the latest build. Is only in Brave.
