Brave doesn't opening: ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found #24380

Open arakakivl opened 2 years ago

arakakivl commented 2 years ago

Description

A few days ago, I tried to open brave by clicking in the brave icon and by the terminal and it wasn't working, it looks like it tried to load but after that, nothing happened. After rebooting the computer, I was able to open like I always used to do. Today, the error happened again: and rebooting my computer wasn't enough. I needed to completely remove brave and reinstall again. Worked. But now, after rebooting my computer, the error occurs again. Using the flag --verbose I can see the following:

[0802/134458.642850:ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found
/usr/bin/brave-browser: line 48: 5827 Segmentation fault "$HERE/brave" "$@"

Actual result:

There's no action. It looks like the system tries to open (the loading icon on mouse appears), but nothing occurs.

Expected result:

The browser opening.

Brave version

Brave Browser 103.1.41.100

arakakivl commented 2 years ago

I'm on Kali Linux 5.18.0-kali5-amd64.

Same error here : When I launch Brave, it stays up 3seconds then crashes with this trace when launched in a terminal :

[0805/121221.400413:ERROR:elf_dynamic_array_reader.h(64)] tag not found [4488:4494:0805/121221.447870:ERROR:broker_posix.cc(43)] Invalid node channel message [4488:4494:0805/121221.449437:ERROR:ssl_client_socket_impl.cc(983)] handshake failed; returned -1, SSL error code 1, net_error -3 /usr/bin/brave-browser : ligne 48 : 4449 Trappe pour point d'arrêt et de trace "$HERE/brave" "$@"

I'm on version 104.1.42.86, using Ubuntu 22.04 with the stable ppa channel

paulalbertdev commented 2 years ago

Just ignored tabs restoration and it seems to work again, then I launched a lot of tabs to see if it wont appen again, and everything seems to work fine...

paulalbertdev commented 2 years ago

It stopped working again & I had to remove Brave's config folder to make it work again... Pretty annoying

doebi commented 1 year ago

This error occoures to me when typing "fa" in the addressbar.

Assuming I want to launch "facebook.com". I open a new tab and start writing f ... a ...

as soon as I hit the "a" key the browser chrases instantly and ultimately with the only log printed being:

[46664:46664:0424/133935.068523:ERROR:chrome_browser_cloud_management_controller.cc(162)] Cloud management controller initialization aborted as CBCM is not enabled.

Is this still happening on the latest browser version?

clarriu97 commented 10 months ago

It has just happened to me with Ubuntu 22 updating to brave 1.61.109

I have tried to install previous versions but the last stable version that works for me is 1.57.64, every newer version crash.

I guess it's 1b0d1300-a543-390b-0000-000000000000 because the date fits my last comment date, but I'm not sure as the browser crashed as soon as I opened it. If you need any extra info feel free to ask 😸

I'm having this problem as well on Arch + Wayland on KDE. I thought it was a hyprland issue, but I reinstalled and tried KDE Plasma instead, same issue.

I DO NOT have this issue on wayland Ubuntu on my laptop. I tried to figure out what I have different from my laptop and desktop, and guess what? It's my second monitor. As soon as I disable my second monitor, it doesn't crash.

Steps I took to reproduce the crash:

  1. Be one arch + wayland
  2. try to expand "hidden bookmarks" after resizing brave window to any size other than the maximum size on my main display, or ANY size on my second display.
  3. click "Hidden Bookmarks"

This is what I got in my terminal:

has been happening with me as well. kernel: 6.1.103-1-MANJARO It randomly crashes, while using https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brave-bin, but no problems with the brave beta version so far

hughobrien commented 3 months ago

Frequent crashing, often before 'restore tabs' can be clicked.

Thank you! Will try and see if it fixes it, crashes happen at random times, so we'll see if the fix eradicated it.

Disabling the brave://flags/#brave-ipfs does not work for me.

For me Brave crashes after the following steps:

Closing that tab triggers the error as described.

I would rather disable all the wallets, but i don#t see an option to do that.

bsclifton commented 2 months ago

Hi folks,

There's not enough information here for us to find/fix something. If there is a way that everybody can reproduce the same issue with the same steps, we would be able to find/fix really quickly. Without that, we need crash reports to try and find more information.

Having some of the crash IDs from brave://crashes would be helpful - I did get one back in January but didn't see anything obvious. Sharing those uploaded crash IDs will help us narrow down the issue.

hughobrien commented 2 months ago

~It should be reproducible on nixos staging, but IMO the core issue there is the libc assumption.~ I tried and failed to reproduce it, so I'm eating my hat.
