This also happens when using a guest window or new profile (ie. with no extensions installed).
Vertical tabs really is a great upgrade to using the web. Please fix soon. Thanks.
I'm also seeing this on Kubuntu:
OS: Kubuntu 23.04 x86_64 Kernel: 6.2.0-20-generic DE: Plasma 5.27.4 WM: KWin GPU: Intel CoffeeLake-H GT2 [UHD Graphics 630] GPU: NVIDIA Quadro P1000 Mobile
Brave Version 1.52.126 Chromium: 114.0.5735.133 (Official Build) (64-bit)
This issue is fixed for me on version 1.54.76 Chromium: 115.0.5790.32 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) .
It appears that in release 1.56.9 Chromium: 115.0.5790.98 (Official Build) (64-bit), the problem persists. I had hoped that the fix in beta (v54+) would have been patched into this release. Sadly, this is not the case.
Same as @cjkr, still happening on my machine as described above on my install of Version 1.56.9 Chromium: 115.0.5790.98 (Official Build) (64-bit)
