Blurred windows #3259

Open leobel96 opened 5 years ago

leobel96 commented 5 years ago

Description

With some websites/windows, I've noted that some texts appear blurred. It may seem a duplicate of https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/2478 but in my case it happens immediately and with precise websites/windows. In particular, I've seen it if I open print window with CTRL+P or in the chat list on https://web.telegram.org.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open print window with CTRL+p
  2. See a little blur on the left

Actual result:

Additional Information

Is this on mac or Windows or Linux? Are you viewing it on primary display or secondary display?

leobel96 commented 5 years ago

Windows 10, primary display.

leobel96 commented 5 years ago

I've installed Chrome to see if it happens also with it and I can confirm it happens also in Chrome.

srirambv commented 5 years ago

Its probably an upstream issue if its reproduced on Chrome as well. Could you try disabling hardware acceleration and check if that fixes the issue on Brave?

leobel96 commented 5 years ago

Disabling it a strange thing happens: only part of the text becomes blurred. In the screen you can see it: "Destinazione", "Stampa" and part of the printer name are not blurred.

Adding /force-device-scale-factor=1 as suggested in this guide solves the problem but now everything (bookmarks, icons, text, ...) is too small!

tildelowengrimm commented 5 years ago

If this happens in Chrome, it definitely sounds like an upstream issue. Has it been reported in Chromium?

@tomlowenthal https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/3349

bsclifton commented 5 years ago

oh boy- I remember this issue from Muon. @leobel96 as you've found out, that force-device-scale-factor=1 flag does fix the issue - because it fixes by removing scaling altogether 😛

Gonna suggest a few things, if you're willing to try them 😄

  1. You can navigate to chrome://flags/#force-color-profile and try to force sRGB. If you have other programs installed like Photoshop, it might be altering your color profile (which may not be the root cause, but may contribute to this problem)
  2. Check your graphic card settings. If you aren't using a proper driver (ex: just the one installed by Windows), try downloading and installing the latest driver from the video card manufacturer
  3. If the above doesn't work, try navigating to chrome://flags/#enable-use-zoom-for-dsf and toggling the value (if nothing changes, you can set back to default)
  4. For a brute force way (not really recommended), you can right click the shortcut and go to the Compatibility tab. There, you can pick System instead of the default Application for overriding the DPI settings compatibility

@bsclifton thank you for the suggestions. Anyway none works.

bsclifton commented 5 years ago

🙀 dang- sucks to hear. Thanks for trying them though! Good to eliminate those possibilities

bsclifton commented 5 years ago

@leobel96 just to confirm- what is your DPI at? 175%? 150%? Would be good to know this and the screen resolution too

leobel96 commented 5 years ago

125% 1920x1080

VivaLaRobo commented 4 years ago

I am also having this issue with blurriness

Kinesia23 commented 3 years ago

For me this was happening when I was running my 3840x2160 screen at 1920x1080 to stop it adjusting screen sizes and scaling when switching in and out of fullscreen games. (leaving it at the lower res most of the time even when not playing so I don't need to change things.) [dell xps 9560, Desktop Windows Manager goes crazy with CPU usage otherwise, so was experimenting with which annoyance annoyed me the least...], but right now Brave being so blurry was the worst so I tried putting it back to full res and it was immediately fixed. (Might not be the exact same cause but it's still to do with scaling and the like.)
