cc: @yrliou can you take a look at when you get a chance?
Is this been fixed? I saw the embedded webtorrent extension. However, this need to work with vpn extensions. May be embedding a vpn extension to make sure its safe to use webtorrent would be the best thing to do.
I was asking myself this question just now, and testing it with WebTorrent in Brave 1.3.115 and the NordVPN extension, using https://ipleak.net, it seems like the bug has been fixed. Can anyone confirm this?
How do you test? If you just paste a magnet link in the address bar with the extension activated it will not work.

Description of the issue:
Brave torrenting ignores the VPN extension and connects directly to other peers. (Brave torrenting is also not available in TOR mode).
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Use TCPView to view internet connections Activate VPN extension Private Internet Access Notice all brave connections connect through customer.sharktech.net Start any torrent Notice many new connections directly to peers ips. Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
All torrenting connections connect directly to peers.
Expected result:
All brave connections connect through customer.sharktech.net
Reproduces how often:
100% of attempts
Brave Version(about:brave):
0.60.23
Reproducible on current live release (yes/no):
yes
Additional Information:
I’m assuming it’s a Brave flaw and not PIA. This seems like a major oversight. Especially since torrenting is not enabled in private TOR windows. Using the desktop version of PIA is not an option in my situation
