Leo Premium: default model change from browser Settings is not updating in Leo #34502

Description

When authenticated as a Premium user, when I change the default model for Leo from Claude to Llama 70b from the browser settings (not from the Leo prompt settings in the prompt window), the default model change does not update in the Leo prompt to reflect the browser level settings change.

I have tried: Refreshing the Leo chat prompt Creating a new Leo prompt Refreshing the browser settings page with the default model menu

the model changes as expected when i toggle from the prompt window, but it seems like there's a bug where the browser level settings page is not communicating to Leo when the user changes the default model from that level.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Authenticate as a Premium Leo users
  2. Navigate to brave://settings/leo-assistant/
  3. Change default model to 70b
  4. open Leo prompt; observe Claude is still default
  5. refresh Leo prompt; observe Claude is still default
  6. create new Leo prompt; observe Claude is still default

Actual result:

20231122_153325

Expected result:

When I change the default model from browser settings, that change should update in the Leo prompt immediately, or at least when I refresh or create a new Leo prompt

Reproduces how often:

I'm seeing other users report this behavior as well — wondering if we can get. an update on this? cc @mattmcalister @rebron

@Brave-Matt can you give me more specific feedback? it would be good to know things like whether the user had set their default previously and to which one and then which model they are trying to change to. this might be related to the recent default upgrade, but more info is needed.
