New Nighly updates remove support for third-party passkeys (feature broken) #38345

Until a few days or weeks ago, I could enable a flag to have support for third-party passkeys app, such as Proton Pass. (See Proton Pass : how to use passkeys

However this flag is now gone and I therefore can't use passkeys on Brave. Only a pop-up shows with the option to use a physical key or scan a QR code.

My version is 1.68.11 and I have Android 14 (Samsung) Edit: Works fine on Stable version (1.65.132)

Also on the Beta release version

I had to enable the "Temporarily unexpire M124 flags" flag before it allowed me to access the third-party passkey flag again.

That enables the flag for me, but it's still not finding passkeys once I enable 3rd party password managers.

It isn't normal that you have to do this, Brave doesn't seem commited to Passkeys and online safety...

I had to disable and re-enable my password manager (1Password) under Settings -> Passwords & accounts -> Passwords, passkeys, and data services

I'm guessing this re-enrolls something under the hood with Android

Thanks, that fixed it for me

I am also having this issue. Everytime I ask Stripe to set up a passkey for me, I get the QR code displayed by brave. But 1password is supposed to prompt to offer to save the passkey instead.

I have tried:

I still get a QR code that pops up but not a way to save it in my 3rd party password manager.

@blanchardjeremy are you doing this on Android or the Desktop Browser? I think the original issue is with Android, where Brave is supposed to use the google passkey API to talk to the 1Passoword Android app, there is no browser extension involved

I ended up realizing that what I was encountering was user error. 😬
