unable to use common features

Description

I've been trying to use the search engine, load the website, and update my browser, but none of these features are working.

Steps to reproduce

1. try and use the search engine
2. try and use the website
3. try and use the update function

Actual result

all attempts fail.

Expected result

these attempts succeed.

Miscellaneous information

I am unaware if there were stable updates between the version stated and the current stable release as when I checked the update page, the checker just gave me a green checkmark and said there were no updates.

For reference, this is what I'm seeing on the front page of the website.

I also tried the installer for the current stable release, and found it would take 37 hours.

most other websites function normally, downloading content from most other websites functions normally.
