Open adrianso opened 4 years ago

adrianso commented 4 years ago

Description

Webtorrent extension does not work in Private Tabs, and unlike other 3rd party extensions, there is no UI in Brave that will allow me to enable this.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start the Brave browser.
  2. From the menu bar, choose File - New Private Window.
  3. Browse to any torrent file, e.g. http://releases.ubuntu.com/19.10/ubuntu-19.10-live-server-amd64.iso.torrent

Actual result:

Error message: lgjmpdmojkpocjcopdikifhejkkjglho is blocked.

Screen Shot 2020-04-16 at 10 10 27 PM

Expected result:

Since this extension is provided by Brave, I expect this to be a "trusted" extension, and therefore should be enabled in Private tabs by default.

Reproduces how often:

Easily reproduced.

cc: @diracdeltas Is this a wontfix? Otherwise, need some assistance on prioritizing this one.

diracdeltas commented 4 years ago

@rebron did we ever implement https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/12631 in brave-core?

if so i think this is fine to do, given that we had it in muon: https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/pull/14529. probably p4.

I experienced this issue today, and not only on private tab, but on normal tab as well. So, I couldn't download torrents at all, needed to use Chrome.

Any update on this?

Any update on this? Still can't download .torrent files.

v-ary commented 4 years ago

if you down the shields on the brave browser (the orange icon in the address bar), you should be able to download the links/files.

Any update?

Will this be fixed in a beta version?

hypeitnow commented 1 year ago

Any updates on this?

grande1900 commented 1 year ago

Any more updates on this? I do hope this'll get fixed in a patch soon so I don't have to paste the address into normal browsing.

Any update on this? Will this get any attention?

Nuc1eoN commented 1 year ago

Seriously, who in their right mind is NOT browsing torrent sites on a private tab? Given the questionable privacy and data protection of torrent sites.

Therefore having to copy the url from a private tab to a non-private tab is not only an inconvinience, but also a security vulnerability in my eyes. Especially for a browser that claims to have the "privacy of its users" in mind.

Requesting update also

rendellr commented 1 year ago

Adding another request to the pile.

Brave lets me download exactly 1 torrent, then the errors start and I'm forced to use chrome.

Adding another request to the pile.

Can confirm this is still not working on the MacOS version of Brave Browser.

AlphaGigaChad commented 7 months ago

still not fixed, hope this is not a FEATURE cause its very annoying and privacy harming

Nuc1eoN commented 7 months ago

I can confirm, this is still a thing and a privacy concern as well.
