proximity sensor for arduplane #830

i have an rc plane with retract system, now i trigger the servo manually in
case of take off and landing. i think that it is possible to trigger this(a
channel) through the APM assisted with a proximity sensor like sonar or optical
flow sensor. what do you think? it is possible for a newer build?

I'm sure it is possible, but is there a substantial advantage to this feature
over just building a mission that commands the retracts up/down immediately
following a waypoint at a set altitude (which is already measured by GPS/Baro)?
I suppose a SONAR would be a more accurate measure of altitude, but I'm not
sure deploying retracts at a perfect altitude is essential to the performance
of their function considering the existing capabilities in this regard.

Command like set servo? Do have a sample or examle to show us this
functionality. It is needed to change the servo from channel pins and
install it on A# pins of APM?
