In case this is of help to other SB3800 owners I managed to get my smatool to 
work with the following values:

Inverter        SB3800
Code1           0x79
Code2           0xCE
Code3           0x2F
Code4           0x37
InvCode         0x63

Possibly a firmware variance?

I have another variation, which is working for me (although getting the "date 
error" problem now and again.SMA SunnyBoy 3800 inverter (UK)

Another set of codes for UK SB3800 with piggy back (does have "date error" 
issue though)
