I have seen in Firmware AVR specific Code. I think this is a limitation in the future.
When somebody switch the base station to another platform like ARM to do more things it needs a rewrite of many code. Duplicated code must be maintained.
Another use case is to port a sensor to another MCU like NRF24LU01+ with integrated 8051 CPU.
