Rollup Stack #372

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What feature or enhancement do you propose?
This issue is reliant upon #371 having been implemented first.

Quite simply the idea is for an even less obtrusive notification format.
Instead of providing a standard, textual message, Rollup would simply display a
"stack" of icons.

The stack would function much like OS X Dock stacks, displaying icons from the
rolled up messages, one per app, with the most recent on top. This gives a
visual cue to the Rollup, and at-a-glance information about what has been
rolled up. Clicking would expand as normal for issue #371. It could potentially
be combined with #371, such that the stack appears in place of a notification's
icon, with the message then being optional, allowing for the minimal or verbose
format.

What problem does it solve/What benefit does it provide?
This is really an enhancement of #371, and should preferably be considered at
the same time. It simply allows for a lower-profile, visual indicator of Rollup
status.

I'm not sure about the usability here (not in a bad way, just requires
thought). Good ideas overall to talk about here. :)

Well I think the main consideration is that it's intended to complement efforts
toward making Rollup a bit less obtrusive. To that end I would appreciate issue
#371 being re-opened unless there's now a more appropriate one, as it covers
the idea of collapsing Rollup into a standard notification, or at least a
smaller one.

The use of a "stack" then means that the notification can be even smaller,
while still conveying some information about what messages are pending.
