There should be a "clear rollup" or "close rollup" script action for Growl Control #626

Similar to "hide rollup" there should be a "clear rollup" feature (or perhaps
"hide rollup" could also clear the backlog.

Lets say I have the rollup enabled for when I'm idle. I come back to my machine
and use a hotkey that has hide rollup as part of it's actions.

tell application "Growl" to hide rollup

When the next message comes in, it will bring up the rollup with all the
previous messages displayed even though I am not idle. If I manually close the
rollup, then subsequent messages do not bring up the rollup until I am idle
again.

There should be a simple way to trigger the same behavior as closing the rollup
manually.
