Using the free version of Sendpress alongside wpMandrill (configured & tested) I would have expected Sendpress email to be routed via Mandrill, as other WP plugins do.
I realise there is an option for Mandrill easy configuration with the Pro version and adding Mandrill routing in the free version is a potential revenue hit.
