Try using my Avermore miner, which is a SGMiner fork optimized for x16. It should get +40% hashrate over this fork (which is deprecated).
I recently added a feature which will automatically find the correct OpenCL platform to use for your AMD cards, which hopefully will help your issue.

As for why SGminer has so many problems; it's been mostly abandoned by its developers for three years. Since it hasn't been maintained, there are some issues with newer hardware that have never been fixed.
Hi, i am trying to mine this algorithm x16r by dumping it in the nicehash miner older, but for love sake, i can not get it to start , i see it launch and it disappears.
I have tried to launch this manually also .
I do not mind mining for another address also, just please somebody help me, its drving me nuts how SGminer has been around so long and it is full of issues? Is this maybe because i have a bad motherboard or chipset? I have serious never been able to find a stable SGminer.
I launch it with command line -T --verbose at the end to show me more i can see my graphics cards listed but it does not start mining.
