Miranda IM is a unified Instant Messaging client. Its Google Code project page
is here: http://code.google.com/p/miranda/

the current version of PhonyBalloony is flakey at best. a replacement for it
that works in a completely different (better) way is in the works and hopefully
will solve the problem. when it is a little farther along, would you be
interested in testing it out to see if it solves this specific issue?

In short: Yes.

In long: The features of PhonyBalloony should be incorporated into Growl for
Windows, and not their own subproject. I would prefer it handled this way over
all, but I would be willing to put some testing time into what replaces
PhonyBalloony.

well, you are in luck then. the replacement for PhonyBalloony is in fact
incorporated into Growl for Windows. well, technically it is a plugin, but it
runs within GfW and can be configured within GfW.

After *much* delay, the replacement for PhonyBalloony is now available here:
http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/subscribers/windowsballoons

it is a 'subscriber plugin' that runs within Growl itself. after you install it
(use the 'Install Now' button on that page to automatically install it), go to
the Network tab and then click on the green + on the right side. in the window
that comes up, scroll down until you find the option for routing Windows
notifications through Growl - select it and Save and you should be all set.
