Hi, sorry about that, we'll get this fixed.
Can you send me your log file %appdata%\exile-diary\log.txt
?
Also, just to confirm, you are clicking on the "save" button in the settings screen after entering the required information?
Hi Brian,
That was a fast reply.
Log in included in this mail, and yes i did click the save button (several times).
On this computer I installed it last week when you did your reddit post. I didnt start it until today when it prompted me to update which I did and after that I noticed the save problems. Since I installed it in a non default location, I thought that might be the issue so I uninstalled, got the latest installer from github and reinstalled at suggested default location. And the problems persisted.

Got it, thanks!
Does the file %appdata%\exile-diary\settings.json
exist? If so, can you try deleting it and starting the app again?
If the file doesn't exist, can you check if there's anything preventing it from being created (directory set to read-only, being protected by antivirus program, etc.)?
settings.json does not exist.
I check my antivirus logs and there is nothing in there. And since it installed in there and is writing to log.txt I cant understand why it cant create the settings-file.
It isnt as simple as it always wants to write to the settings.json and if it is a clean new install should create it if it is not found? I mean the logs says nothing about it being unable to create the file, just that it cant be found.
Hmm, can't understand it either, the file should be created automatically if it doesn't exist.
Just to confirm, you are entering all the required information? None of the input boxes get a red outline when you click save?
I've just uploaded a new release (v0.2.65) with debugging enabled. Can you update to it and then check if there are any errors in the debugging console (the hotkey to open it is Ctrl+Shift+1) when you try to save your settings?
No new info in debug console, just the same "Unable to load settings.json"
and version is 0.2.65
Are you really sure it tries to save a new settings.json when installing or starting first time?
I tested created an empty json "{}" and errors changed to cant read account name. is there an issue with the install? maybe it creates the settinggs.json somewhere else? I will try search for the filename.
Yup, the app only creates files in %appdata%/exile-diary
.
The only cause I can see is the app not actually saving when you click save... this should only happen if some of the required information has been left blank, the only indication of failure is a red outline in the text boxes.
Just to confirm, you have entered all of the following? Account name, poesessid, currently active character, Client.txt location, screenshot directory (or check the "disable" box)?
Tested today again with new version and it works. What I think happened is probably my fault. I think in all my tries I always left some fields empty and never noticed any red outline failure indication.
Anyway, sorry for having you chasing non-existing bugs.
All working? Great :-) Will make the "required field" notification clearer.
[Edit: implemented in v0.2.67, will close now]
Installed this on a new computer (the install file from your last version).
lots of "Unable to load settings.json"
and as a consequence it seems it cant save anything i put into settings. it is cleared after I go to main menu and back to settings. If i stay in settings and put in the account info and possessid ishows my characters but as soon as i leave settings it has forgotten all (presumalby as it cant save anything).
I have a blinking about ("!") when clicked just gives me versioninfo.
