Biosphere exchange in- and outputs wrong way around with ecoinvent 3.9.1? #66

Hello everyone,

I have a question on doing LCA with Brightway2. When I was checking out exchanges of type 'biosphere' in the ecoinvent database I imported into my project, I noticed that type 'biosphere' exchanges had activities of type 'emission' as input while having activities with type 'process' as output. This is rather counterintuitive: I'd expect the reverse.

For example, there's an exchange with activity 'Carbon monoxide, non-fossil' (type 'emission') as input and activity 'treatment of waste packaging paper, municipal incineration' (type 'process') as output. Doesn't the incineration activity produce the carbon monoxide? Right now, it implies that the carbon monoxide produces the incineration, which is bizarre.

Could this be clarified? Is this a convention we need to use because of the underlying math? Or is this a bug with the importer? If I define a new activity A that emits CO2, do I have to make a CO2 emission activity B and create an exchange with B as input and A as output?

Thanks in advance for the help! Joshua

I am very sorry but I do nothing related to brightway and ecoinvent anymore, and will therefore close this issue since I am not able to follow-up anymore.
