Import Hestia data into OpenLCA #24

Open cmutel opened 1 year ago

Hestia uses a variant of the olca-schema developed by GreenDelta, the makers of OpenLCA. In theory it should therefore be relatively simple to import Hestia data into OpenLCA. This topic is about making that possibility a reality.

@cmutel it would be interesting to also try and close https://github.com/brightway-lca/brightway2-io/issues/15 as part of this project so the loop Hestia <> OpenLCA <> Brightway is closed.

What are your thoughts on that?

This would be a "nice to have" and come after the resolution of this ticket. But as it's mentioned Hestia already uses a variant of the olca-schema, I anticipate / hope the work would be fairly straightforward.

@selimyoussry Going through OpenLCA seems a bit ambitious... but definitely we should be able to have data flow between the three systems.

I would rather have this hackathon produce finished solutions to smaller problems than 50% solutions that then stay in limbo afterwards. The hackathon teams will have the chance to show their results on Wednesday to the wider audience, so having something useful by then is a pretty hard requirement. But sure, we can continue to work on this, either during the hackathon or afterwards.

Of course, I don't get to tell anyone what to do, but you did ask for my thoughts 👅
