An ldap server needs to be configured along with an nginx auth module to generate user tokens rather than the browser doing it with javascript.

The authentication model has changed to use galaxies internal authentication. The underlying user database can still be configured to be an LDAP server to allow sharing of users across applications/galaxy instances.
