missing ability to get bliki library version

It would be nice to be able to retrieve the current version number from the 
library in order to show it in e.g. a Special:Version page

is there a way to keep this value (automatically) in sync with the one being 
used by the Maven script to create the jar file?

There are some ways to keep it in sync.
But is this realy necessary?

probably not absolutely necessary - I just wanted to avoid forgetting about 
this string in future :)
