Fixes from the field, using persist+rebind.

We should first merge https://github.com/brooklyncentral/brooklyn/pull/1452, and then rebase this PR.

great fixes. couple of minor comments.

i've repaired merge conflicts and will do a push to merge this -- comments can be addressed afterwards if you think needed @aledsage .
