Talk Title:
The history of putting things side by side
Talk Description:
A rundown of the ways people have put things side by side in CSS from the well known (table -> float -> flexbox) to the rare (table* -> inline-block -> js + absolute -> grid) with some funny examples of the failure of each, as well as the timeline of when each method came into fashion / became irrelevant.
Will end the talk on the black magic table* layout that is commonly used in responsive email templates.
My experience comes from building and maintaining a number of large styleguides / grid systems for clients (as team.pizza) and full-time positions, teaching advanced CSS workshops at Thinkful, and working on responsive email there.
