Stabilize the core #36

Issue #32 showed that the core had a subtle bug with respect to puzzle analysis. In order to track it down, I needed to add a command line client tailored for debugging. While I was at it, I also cleaned up all the test logging.

With 66290c8, this PR fixes #37
