rtf works the same was as pdf or image. they all do replace.
Then why does the documentation show them overlap side-by-side and state that you can drag a middle bar to show more of one or the other.
Actually it seems that they all have that middle bar that you can drag but that when you are comparing them side-by-side that you can't move either side without causing the complete replace. Is that true?

the compare box is not used to compare docs side-by-side, but rather to switch from one to another, such as to transition between before/after pictures.
but you can compare side-by-side if you drag the divider bar. when you touch either document is when it does a replace.

no, sliding does not do a side-by-side comparison. instead it shows the left part of one document and the right part of the other. it's intended primarily for images.
You're right. However, it would be an extremely useful tool if V2 could enhance it to provide side-by-side comparisons of RTF and PDF documents - my Philosophers' Web use case for example where I'm involved with textual comparisons would find it quite useful. Just a suggestion.

just put as many documents as you want into a multicolumn collection if you want to do that.
Good suggestion - I'd not played around with multicolumn or multirow perspectives. What is the value of the compare in that case then?

compare if for sliding between. a before/after image of something.
but the multicolumn would give you that as well along with great manipulation freedom for the individual documents.

sigh, no, they are very different. multicolumn squishes and thus distorts one of the items in order to expand the other. compare allows you to see the before and after where both are registered to the same coordinate system without distortion.
for examples, see: https://www.wix.com/app-market/before-and-after-slider
AH. very very important and something my trivial use had not uncovered. Thanks!!

Thanks - I've bookmarked it.

The documentation in Dash Feature Documentation only shows images but does not say that you can't do a side-by-side compare of RTF documents. PDF documents show side-by-side.
