HTTPS support #78

Closed tmcw closed 9 years ago

This relates more to the instance at wzrd.in than this codebase, but it would be great if wzrd.in supported HTTPS so it could be used on SSL-only sites like some Mapbox documentation pages.

:+1:

Big :+1: - I raised this issue with cdnjs over at https://github.com/cdnjs/cdnjs/issues/4112, and laid out my argument for moving, which they did.

I'm not sure what wzrd.in's hosting is like - I'm happy to help talk through cheap, low-maintenance SSL options for the project.

This would be amazing :)

AFAIK a heroku instance

konklone commented 9 years ago

If it's Heroku, their custom domain SSL support is $20/month. That's separate from obtaining the cert, which can be free if you want to jump through some hoops, or $16/year if you want to have an easy time of it. The Heroku fee is a bit annoyingly high, but it's totally worth it.

wilzbach commented 9 years ago

Hmm I don't know whether anyone here has 240$ per year just for ssl - however we could use cloudflare as proxy + cdn. Cloudfare offers its universal ssl to all costumers :)

konklone commented 9 years ago

Yes, CloudFlare is probably a better option, if $240/year is too expensive. It'll flow unencrypted between Heroku and CloudFlare, but it'll still address a lot of problems.

wzrd.in is on a digital ocean droplet. i'm happy to give someone shell access to the server if they wanna do the legwork! I have DNS access as well

jfhbrook commented 9 years ago

fwiw I'm interested in making wzrd.in use cloudflare.

jfhbrook commented 9 years ago

Of course, while I have a ton of ideas for wzrd.in my execution has been pretty weak. My apologies.

konklone commented 9 years ago

@maxogden happy to do the legwork on this one, if y'all are okay with that. We can coordinate off thread.

jfhbrook commented 9 years ago

I know my participation isn't necessary, but I'd like to be kept in the loop. :)

shipped thanks to @konklone !
