Reverts brry/rdwd#6 Does not work correctly yet. Too much to figure out here (e.g. unsigned char for raw). Will have to wait untill after the next CRAN release, as that one is urgent. Also, why did I merge this directly into master? That was sub-smart. Note to future me: pay attention!
